You may notice that the students listen and sing songs in different languages (Korean language) they don't know what is the meaning, they speak their favorite Korean in the plays then they admire the actors and actresses in the movie and sometimes imitate its appearance.
Let’s start with the famous actor so called “Captain Yoo Si Jin”, or in real life actor song joong ki the Korean drama series, descendants of the sun, said once: "I think I'm fighting for freedom and peace for the land we live."
As a soldier fighting for peace and prosperity, Filipinos have already tried to overcome great obstacles in life as a nation. During several years of captivity under three different nations, the values of perseverance and strength developed, which subsequently prompted Filipinos to build and live with their own culture. However, even though they live freely, they have remained open to adapting to changes and influences from other countries, which has led "Hallyu" to participate in the culture of the country. Hallyu is a Chinese term meaning 'Korean Wave' and refers to the worldwide popularity of South Korea's cultural economy which showcases pop cultures, entertainment, music, TV series and movies. grew rapidly across the country, influencing young people, whose thirst for new updates and trends seemed to be very important. Now, when Hallyu's influence began to reach young minds, could South Korean culture possibly overwhelm the original Filipino culture?
The year 2003 since Hallyu reached the Philippines, as one of the first locally broadcast Korean telenovelas titled Autumn in my Heart. from then, Filipino's loved the telenovelas but, why? the main reasons Filipinos are popular with Korean telenovelas is due to their unique style in presenting their drama which mainly appeals at the middle class level providing bright moods for the audience where they see urban scenes in Seoul, there is a desire to visit Korea and the Filipinos also loved the way they developed their script given that their show has only a short time, unlike the local dramas that air. In other words, Hallyu's influence made Filipinos fall in love with what South Korean productions can offer.
Additionally, the rise of KPOP gave Hallyu other reasons to greatly influence young people through media artists who were able to establish their fan bases in the country, they began to greatly inspire Filipinos to the point. that food, music, movies, sports, gestures and clothing become one of their biggest dreams to pursue. Korean popular groups in fashion with music videos also inspired young people to fulfill their dreams and protect themselves. As one of the important lyrics of Bangtan Sonyeondan (BTS) songs says, "You showed me I have reasons I should love myself", hope to keep dreaming and achieve their goals were instilled in them.
Moreover, apart from Hallyu, Koreans are considered to be the best visitors to the Philippines, not to mentioned K-pop celebrities and actors like sandara park, lee minho, park seo-joon, park hyun-sik and etc... Not only are Filipinos open to adapting to another culture, but Koreans are too.
Having said that, intercultural communication prevailed among influences from both countries. Because Korean culture did not really overwhelm the original Filipino culture, Hallyu's influence had a big impact on Filipinos, who through their adaptation from Korean culture, Filipino culture was developed and improved in other aspects of the Filipino way of life. In which not only "influence" was offered, but a strong bond of peace between the relations of two nations. For Filipinos, they believed that through Hallyu, young Filipinos remembered the values and roles they should represent in society, in order to achieve the goal of their country.
