“First and foremost, the start of the new era.”

The Elections within the Philippines could be a time of alliances, pundits, politicking within and across party lines. A variety of candidates have put themselves forward for the upcoming 2022 elections, though their agendas and positions should be too cloudy for US voters to create a transparent bet. Meanwhile Persistent problems around politics are present, but I feel a reform via the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) is slowly happening so there’s still lots of time ahead for unpredictability, by prospective candidates and also the voting population.

Somehow Elections within the Philippines involves money and political machines. The cash politics that has characterized elections within the country, one among Asia’s oldest democracies, may be a campaign finance issue that's recognized but never arrested and controlled. And it's only one a part of the matter. The larger part of the matter is that the low institutionalization of political parties within the Philippines.

The dearth of genuine programmatic political parties persists when the language of party politics is continually used and also the undermining of a democratic institution under the ruling populist administration.

But within the coming months, all eyes are going to be on another democratic institution, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC). This constitutional commission tasked with election administration encompasses a history that occasionally favored the incumbent. Over the years, the commission has tried to modernize and increase its capacity, but there are lingering problems with credibility. as COMELEC has addressed problems with reform, much can still be done. Hobbled by resource and capacity issues, a part of the trepidation if the COMELEC will perform its mandate with independence is that the composition of the commissioners.

To the credit of COMELEC, to date there are not any indications that it'll be partisan, nor its autonomy breached. But COMELEC can even be more proactive in shaping electoral politics – it can issue official statements to indicate that it's the authority on all electoral matters. The sudden revival of small, inactive political parties during election season to function vehicles by politicians who were eased out of intra-party competition and therefore the substitution of candidates at the last minute has become a standard strategy. It makes the electoral arena seem deprived of a referee to stay the integrity of the sport. This could leave some voters and candidates having less confidence that it'll be a good election. But it's still a long wait to May 2022 election.

Candidates running against Duterte’s anointed successor will must strategize and coordinate to induce the votes. it's important to not lose sight of the elusive ‘united opposition’. to make sure a non-administration win, each camp will should run their campaign in a very way that may leave a gap for alliances.

Power-money-clan coordinates will crystalize closer to day. But there's also a percentage of market votes that are undecided. The character of elections with the constant live interviews, the closely covered campaigns, also will impact and expose people who have gained traction mostly through social media with their carefully curated and staged performances. Like for US Voters who haven't made up our minds are going to be keenly watching how each will run their campaign and also the issues that they'll champion.

For as far as my knowledge goes, that Campaigns can still obtain momentum, while there’s time for a few to implode.

The 2022 Election May Be A Critical Juncture For The Philippines.
