Flexible Learning: Classrooms During Pandemic

Flexible learning is a method of learning that caters the needs of students without having the need to be physically present in school. In today’s time, this method of learning has become pervasive all over the world because of the pandemic where face-to-face interaction is not yet allowed. Through this method of learning, teachers and students alike can still go on with their classes amid the world health crisis.

This method of learning is considered to be an innovation to solve the current situation of the education sector to address continuity of students’ learning. In fact, this perverts traditional type of education leading to a new style of learning and teaching, not to mention the different educational platforms one has to be accustomed with in order to successfully deliver the relevant instruction paradigm to his/her e-classrooms. This action to address the said concern is deem better than doing nothing at all and wait for the pandemic to end to resume classes.

Saying that we regard the cost of flexible learning as little short of challenging sounds very pretentious. It really pains everyone knowing the fact that there are less fortunate students who are very much affected to this current set up. Although teachers on the other side are affected on this, too. For instance, teachers who fall under the category of digital immigrant, the ones who have little knowledge on the use of technologies, may find it very backbreaking to learn how to navigate the software for their e-classrooms. Considering that it’s not the only thing teachers have to think about. Other considerations may include lesson preparation, checking of students’ output, among others. Therefore, this does not only require additional budget for gadgets, educational materials for teachers and students and load for internet connection, but time and effort to successfully deliver the instruction and effectively use the technologies in online class platforms. It’s an arduous task to begin with. Isn’t it?

We have been in this situation for years already, and everyone is already struggling. Apparently, it’s not our choice, but we all need to bite the bullet to keep the fight. The current situation reflects the words of Albert Einstein: “Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.” What’s going on now is not our choice, it’s unalterable, but we can do something about it. Nonetheless, we need to keep going.
