Growing Societies in the Contemporary World: Is it making the world a better place?

Today, in this globalized age, the effects of globalization may be seen in a variety of ways, ranging from the smallest details to major factors. This encompasses the practice of cultures as well as our connections with people from all over the world, which are all made possible by globalization. However, does globalization affect cultures in such a way that they become more similar to one another or become different from what they are supposed to be?

Globalization, according to Thomas Larsson (2001), "is the process of the world shrinkage, of distances getting shorter, of things moving closer." Through globalization, people, things, and information may travel much more easily and quickly –liquidity. The globe appears to be getting closer to us, and distance appears to be shrinking. Within countries are societies, and within a society are various cultures and point of views on life. People adapt to traditions that were not originally part of their culture in a world impacted by various countries. These can be seen in one's actions and changes in behavior. People who are surrounded on a daily basis by someone who engages in the global world just by being a productive member of society develop global competency. All societies share one goal: to attain global competency, which allows each civilization to become a member of a global community. This is where cultural hybridization comes in, where a new culture emerges through the mixing and blending of society, resulting in the formation of a global cultural identity. Heterogeneity is on a larger scale as a result of the interactions of diverse societies around the world.

People have been more accepting and welcoming of different ideologies, various races, languages, and beliefs as the world becomes more diverse. The result of combining global and local cultures is a product of distinctive mixtures. A heterogeneous society is one in which people of many ethnicity and cultural origins live together. When a foreign culture enters another place, the person's culture does not immediately disappear in the face of the new culture. They can maintain their cultural practices while incorporating and adapting them to the new ideas and civilizations they will encounter. No one loses sight of their culture's origins; rather, they create a culture that obtains fresh perspectives that were previously unavailable to them. When different societies with different cultures collide, a new culture emerges.

The world is forming a global culture, resulting in unique cultural mixtures. The restaurant KFC is an example of this; they created dishes on their menus to suit everybody's taste, literally anyone from different cultures. Through Social Globalization, with the use of social media, people were able to form stronger bonds and establish an environment where they could share their ideas, creativity, and opinions while also spreading awareness.

A society and its culture are both meant to evolve throughout time. It does not mean the end of cultural traditions; we can preserve them in such a way that they continue to thrive. Understanding different cultures can be difficult, but allowing oneself to embrace them will help one grow. It can be difficult, but these differences help to create a culture that must be acknowledged; it is a wonderful thing to live in a diversified community– a heterogeneous society.
