Globalization has become a worldwide phenomenon. The term “Globalization” refers to how trade and technology have made the world a more interconnected and interdependent place which also has its advantages and disadvantage to the people and the society. One of the advantages of globalization is the increase of job opportunities in different countries, As globalization progresses, more and more companies are establishing their business in various nations and as a result, there is more job available in regions where people can redeem themselves. People can improve their careers without going to another country. Conversely, the disadvantage of globalization is it only benefits the wealthy people or the Developed Countries more than the poor people or the Developing Countries. Globalization continues to benefit developed industrialized countries the most since expanding globalization provides the highest GDP per capita increases in absolute terms for them (Petersen, 2018). The main reasons that have caused globalization are multinational corporations with a global presence in a variety of economies are expanding, Improved technology that allows people all across the world to communicate and share information more easily, Improved transportation, making overseas travel more convenient. Finally, globalization is a natural and unavoidable phenomenon that no country can avoid or ignore, and failure to accept it will result in marginalization (Jaja, 2011).
The world is becoming smaller and more homogenized and this holds many advantages and disadvantages and is creating a future that is full of possibilities. According to Webster’s Dictionary Homogeny is defined as “being of a similar kind or type, uniform throughout.” A society with a homogeneous culture where everyone has the same race. This culture is characterized by people who share similar cultural traits. They speak the same language and follow the same societal norms and traditions. As a result of the dispersion of commodities and ideas, globalization is leading the world’s people to grow more similar to one another. Because of the vast amount of media and other items that are part of a broader global economy, cultural homogeneity is becoming increasingly visible in today’s society. More and more individuals are likely to watch the same entertainment shows, listen to the same music, consume common global brand items and services, and dress in the same or similar clothes across diverse areas and nations around the world. People can also benefit from easier and higher-quality communication as a result of homogeneity. It is easier for a group to empathize with each other when they have all grown up with the same media, in nearly the same situations, and with about the same manners and grasp of how the culture's structures work. Individuals are generally nicer to people they know well, and in a homogeneous culture, you know most people very well.
Homogenization also has disadvantages, one of which is that it affects unique cultural traditions in many countries, limiting the quantity of cultural diversity in the world and there isn’t much room for people’s creativity or independent thought. Because globalization encourages the flow of cultural practices and norms as well as cross-border exchanges of goods and services, both societies and organizations must understand the cultural implications of these flows to improve interactions with other cultures and manage international organizations more efficiently.
